I'll admit it: I'm one of those people who once declared how I didn't get the point of Twitter and am now utterly, hopelessly and completely addicted.
First thing I do when I boot up my computer is launch Tweetdeck. I avidly check for @ replies and skim through my Twitter stream for interesting things to read, cool quotes, questions I might be able to answer.

Of course, Twitter's much more than that, but this isn't going to be one of those, "Why you should Twitter" or "Twitter is the best thing since the invention of schnapps" posts.
You see, I kept the Twitter e-mail notifications set to let me know whenever I have a new follower. All the e-mails are routed through a gmail filter, so my inbox isn't inundated. I like to check out new followers, see who they are and such. That's why I saw one the other day that has got to be the coolest thing since the invention of, I dunno, peach schnapps -- "Henry David Thoreau is now following you on Twitter."

It's an account that sends out tweets of Thoreau quotes, the occasional link to Thoreau resources and even a tour of Walden Pond for Earth Day. Very ... peaceful. The page has 2,538 followers and a short bio of the man.
He followed me, I assume, because I retweeted a Thoreau quote someone sent out, "It's not what you look at that matters, it's what you see."
I follow @HanSolo , @DarthVader , @OscarWilde and even @DrTobiasFunke. They're all great.
